Veolia Water Technologies South Africa can assess the state of a plant and make recommendations about the upkeep of the plant and the required replacements or maintenance needed. The company can then provide the manpower on site to perform the necessary replacements, as well as provide the spares and consumables required.
Operation without maintenance
This contract includes the provision of manpower for the day-to-day operation of water treatment plants, but excludes maintenance, spares and consumables.
Planned maintenance without operation
Scheduled maintenance visits are covered and all spares and consumables are replaced on time and before breakdown of the plant is experienced, but there is no presence on site for day-to-day operation.
Operation and maintenance
This option includes full operational and maintenance support, where Veolia Water Technologies South Africa engineers manage the day-to-day operations of the water treatment plant and ensure that the maintenance and replacement of spares and consumables are done on schedule and efficiently. This helps to prevent unscheduled interruptions and catastrophic breakdowns.
Build, own, operate
In this case, two standard contracts exist:
- Build, Own, Operate (BOO)
- Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT)
With BOO, Veolia Water Technologies South Africa (possibly in a joint venture with other partners) supplies all the water treatment equipment at its own cost and operates the plant for the client while delivering a product (usually water) under a contracted cost. In this manner, the company acts as a water utility, removing the responsibility of ensuring the efficient running of the plant from the client and providing the financing for the installation of the plant.
For BOOT projects, all of the above applies, but after a fixed contract period has expired, the equipment/plant is transferred to the client.
Many of these types of plants are managed by joint ventures, where several partners help to mitigate the risk and share the responsibility of ensuring the efficient and productive running of the installation.
Advantages of outsourcing
Experience has shown that the average industrial client has little interest in the water treatment plant on its premises. As long as the water is produced or the waste processed, it won't be noticed, since it is not the primary focus of the company. Unfortunately, as soon as these plants experience a problem, there is a very definite effect on the efficiency of the rest of the production process. To avoid problems and ensure smooth uninterrupted operation, efficient maintenance and good day-to-day management are essential.
For the municipal client that has the responsibility of providing a consistent product to its constituents, the problem centres on ensuring the best efficiency with the limited resources available. Veolia Water Technologies South Africa can offer assistance thanks to our extensive technological resources and wide-ranging experience, as well as the experience and knowledge of our parent company, Veolia Water Technologies. Not only can we help in optimising municipal plants currently operating far above their design capacities, but we can also help ensure that any new installations are easy to operate and maintain, and make the best use of the available resources.
Veolia Water Technologies South Africa can also operate and maintain these plants for clients, ensuring consistent quality and efficient management of the equipment.
