Eskom Tutuka Power Station, Mpumalanga

Project value: R60 million

VWS South Africa designed, constructed and commissioned a power plant water treatment system aimed at reducing the amount of unexploited brine water produced at the Eskom Tutuka Power Station from 3 mega litres, to 0.6 mega litres per day.

The Actiflo® treats brine water with acidic coagulation and sludge thickening, while the Multiflo®, carbon filtration, ultrafiltration, and reverse osmosis make up the rest of the processes. The result is an overall recovery of water greater than 75%.

This drastically reduces the need for the slow and expensive evaporation treatment, and reduces the power station's amount of raw water intake.
