SASOL Synfuels Factory, Secunda

VWS South Africa designed, constructed and commissioned a petrochemical water treatment facility, intended to boost the plant's total available water by re-using cooling tower blowdown water to the point of ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge).

This petrochemical water treatment system consists of two Multiflo® clarifiers, three trains of water treatment consisting of submerged membrane installations, ion exchange softeners, reverse osmosis and a mixed bed demineralisation system which forms a completely closed water system.

This petrochemical water treatment method was chosen because it is compact, cost-effective and easy to operate for the client. It is also relatively simple to construct, which reduced the amount of civil work required.
