Earth Day 2023

Invest in our planet

Each year, Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd. The event sees millions across the world, individuals, corporates, ngo’s and the like participating in environmental awareness events aimed at protecting planet Earth. But why celebrate Earth Day?

INVESTING IN OUR PLANET TODAY, MEANS SECURING IT FOR TOMORROW'S GENERATION.

The first event, launched in 1970, mobilized 1 Billion individuals and over 190 countries. Today, Earth Day is recognized as the largest secular observance in the world still marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to encourage change to human behavior and create permanent global, national and local policy changes.

As the urgency in the climate crisis grows, so too must our efforts to mobilise action.

EARTH DAY AND VEOLIA.

Says Stanley Steenkamp, CEO: Veolia Services Southern Africa: “Investing in the African continent has never been more important, for our children and for our children’s children. As an organisation committed to the restoration and preservation of resources, every day is Earth Day at Veolia. Not only are we working toward radically changing patterns of production and consumption in order to achieve Ecological Transformation, but we work with and for our stakeholders to come up with meaningful solutions to major problems, and we play an active role in raising awareness too. “

Our solutions are aimed at meeting environmental challenges, and must therefore be affordable, replicable, scalable and desirable. Given the considerable urban expansion on the African continent, it has become clear that infrastructure and resources are lacking and not able to keep up. Increased natural disasters such as flooding as well as the onset of more frequent droughts is an urgent signal of the growing climate crisis on the continent. Pressure on industrial users is also increasing and forcing companies to relook their way of doing business by adopting a circular approach in their manufacturing and production processes. Our support for industry includes improving the quality and efficiency of water, waste and energy services.

OUR CIRCULAR SOLUTIONS:
